Good Hair Comic

Good Hair. Not just a crummy movie starring Chris Rock that no one will ever remember, but also how I describe my own hair. My curly fro has been so much of who I am throughout my life that it truly is a character unto itself. I have had many ridicule me for my hair, and I have had many praise me for it. In the end, it is not something I have much control over. It does what it does, and I'm cool with that.

Plus, if anyone ridicules me now... lunch... hee hee hee.

This strip below is the final strip I drew before getting injured. The pencils have sat in my sketch book for nearly four months, and I could not bring myself to complete the piece. Completing it seemed like it could be the last one I ever did.

But this will not be my last comic.

Today, I inked it myself and did all the coloring as well. It took much longer than I am used to, but I did it nonetheless. I am confident that I will go forward, and like I've said in previous posts, I have not stopped coming up with ideas each week. The weeks I've missed will have strips soon enough.

Until then, please, enjoy this one. It is silly, and it makes little sense, but that's exactly what gives me a little smile. Hopefully it gives you one as well.

Death Never Takes a Vacation... and here's why

Now, admittedly, the original Halloween movies aren't that great, but there's something that still works about those original two. Rob Zombie went ahead and re-made the first one. He gave us insight as to why Michael Meyers was the way he was. And you know what? I didn't care. I've never cared about the psyche of the deranged Michael Meyers. I don't think ANYONE did. Except of course Rob Zombie. So, we got a retelling that filled in some of those holes about what makes a killer tick. And somehow, it was deemed necessary for more. Thus, Halloween II.

Two Short Inglourious Comics

All right, I came up with two comics this week, and yes, I know that they are pretty close to the same joke, but I drew them both anyhow. I wasn't really too sure a comic with a cartoon Hitler would be okay. I don't want anyone to think I'm showing sympathy for the evilest of evil. I am not. I asked around - and despite liking the one with cartoon me (no narcissism, I swear) - I got a laugh with Hitler every time.

It Might Get Loud Comic

As the summer ends, so does the summer movie season. What that means for all of us is that movies that mean something to anyone are not going to be swooping into the theaters for the next two or three months. The fall season tends to bring the drudged up crap from the lower recesses of Hollywood. Not that that necessarily means everything that comes out is crap. It just means that as the fall comes and summer goes, the films will be less recognizable by name, and at best more like, "Oh, I think I saw a commercial for that" from now 'til about two weeks before Thanksgiving when the Holiday movie season begins. This weekend brought us District 9. But I do not bring you a comic about District 9. This week, you get Bandslam and It Might Get Loud. I've supplied the trailers and the links to these offerings since more than most won't have a clue what either of these flicks are. Check out "It Might Get Loud". It looks really great, and if anyone actually gets to see it, send me an email and tell me about it, since (surpringly) no one out here in the LA region seems to have it. As for Bandslam... uh... OH! White boys rapping! Ho-lar-e-US! HA-Ha... >sigh<... ha.

500 Days of Joe

I think I may have gone a bit too far on this one. This is far more background than I normally put in these little things. Upside: it's Saturday, which means I'm ahead of schedule. So, despite the many backgrounds, I managed to past early. If you have not gone and seen 500 Days of Summer yet, I highly recommend. As for G.I. Joe... I have not yet seen it, but surprisingly, I've heard good things. Anyway, enjoy!

"They mostly come at night... mostly."

So, I've been asked about my process. It's not much, but here's a brief glimpse and explanation. Each comic starts as a quick sketch with stick figures with a highlighter. I then go straight for the ink. After that, it's a simple matter of scanning, coloring in photoshop, and then to the internet and posting.

Today, Juan and Mike and myself went to a little do-dad for work. I spent the day "paying attention" by drawing. I realized that I missed school. I got so much doodling done back when I had to sit at a desk or in some lecture hall for 90+ minutes! I never realized the productivity I had. I did a comic (or more) a day back in school! I could take this weekly comic shtick I got going now and make myself a daily!
